The California Strawberry Commission is the unifying voice for the strawberry industry, bringing together more than 400 growers, shippers and processors to ensure successful farming operations and a sustainable future for America’s favorite fruit. It takes a lot of dedication — and support — to grow 90% of our nation’s strawberries. At the core of the Commission’s work are integrated programs that drive industry advocacy, expand grower education, and drive farming innovation forward with an eye on preserving natural resources and protecting the rural heritage of strawberry farming.
Industry Advocacy
We amplify the voices of our farmers who are committed to growing with the world as it rapidly evolves. We ensure that the industry has a seat at the table to educate policymakers on the legislative and regulatory issues that affect strawberry farming and underscore how critical strawberries are to California’s economy and the local communities they sustain. The Commission helps mitigate impacts to growers from weather events, maintains our industry’s positive reputation, and advocates for grants and government funding that help our industry not just be resilient, but thrive.
Education & Insights
The Commission empowers its growers, shippers and processors through education, ongoing training and valuable market insights. From ensuring workforce safety and expertise with bilingual workshops and in-field training, to farm equipment safety reviews and helping the industry comply with emerging regulations, the Commission is a critical training resource for both farmers and farmworkers. We also provide valuable data-driven market insights that help the industry inform operational planning based on supply and demand, consumer and retail trend analysis, and expanding export markets.
Farming Innovation
We foster a culture of innovation to help our growers increase crop quality and value, improve labor efficiencies, and adhere to increasing regulations. Celebrating 10 years of partnership with the Cal Poly Strawberry Center, we are invested in advancing world-leading efforts in automation, plant pathology and pest management to help our industry grow. Together with our university partners, like Cal Poly and UC Davis, we offer growers free plant disease diagnostic services and support plant breeding research for improved fruit quality and disease resistance, as well as sustainable farming practices, like reducing fumigants and conserving water, and production automation. We are always striving for new strawberry farming innovation — for our growers, our workers, our land, our communities and our planet.
